The Harmful Effects of Tobacco Cigarette Smoking

Just What Are You Putting Into Your Body?

Smoking tobacco cigarettes is bad for you. This is really not new information. In fact, over the last thirty years, this is a fact that has been drilled into the head of just about every child across the nation. From surgeon general warnings to anti-smoking campaigns in school, we as a nation have learned that smoking a tobacco cigarette has been directly linked to:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Respiratory Disease
  • Coronary Heart Disease

In addition, smoking tobacco can cause a host other physical, emotional, and psychological ailments, including (but certainly not limited to), strokes, infertility, stillbirth, low bone density, low birth weight, hip fractures, and lower blood circulation.

This is to say nothing of the dangers of second hand smoke. Containing more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds that are toxic and about 70 that can cause cancer,2 secondhand smoke puts the lives and health of our children, families and coworkers at risk.

But Yet We Continue to Turn to Tobacco?

Despite all these numbers and despite these facts and figures being drilled into our heads since we could talk, we as a society continue to use tobacco cigarettes at an alarming rate.

Check out these statistics from the Center for Disease Control:

  • “An estimated 45.3 million people, or 19.3% of all adults (aged 18 years or older), in the United States smoke cigarettes.”1
  • “Cigarette smoking is more common among men (21.5%) than women (17.3%)” 1
  • “Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States”2

Why do we continue to smoke?

Our continued use of tobacco cigarettes can probably be tied to a number of reasons. From physical dependency to a learned behavior, the reasons we continue to inhale and exhale cigarette smoke seem limitless.

Yet, it is important to remember that there is an alternative to traditional cigarettes. With

recent innovations in the electronic cigarette marketplace, long time smokers can now turn to an alternative that closely mimics the habitual aspect of smoking. With e-cigarettes, they can experience drag, throat hit, and nicotine; but they can do so without drawbacks like nasty odor, bad taste and offensive smoke.

Even more, many of the leading electronic cigarette manufacturers, like the people here at blu Cigs, are committed to lowering the types of ingredients you put into your body. Unlike tobacco cigarettes, which have upwards of 7,000 known ingredients, the e-liquid (also known as smoke juice) in many electronic cigarettes only contains things like: Citric Acid, Nicotine,   Distilled Water, Natural and Artificial Flavors, and USP Grade Glycerin. Overall, this seems to mean that these revolutionary devices are a true alternative.
